@thor they're gonna phase it out at some point, though a few months before the M1 dropped they released a mac pro, so that mac pro has gotta last at least 5 more years, so I'd say you probably have at least 5 years on it

Not necessarily. Apple has a really poor history of providing long term support for high-end models, e.g. latest Power Mac G5 was introduced in late 2005, but Mac OS X 10.6 released in mid 2009 had no PowerPC support at all.
They do this quite often, they support lower end MB Air models for years, but just ditch higher end MacBook Pros 🤷

@m0xee @thor 4 years is quite good compared to android phones.
and that's only because google has a gun pointed to their head to update their phones.

No, it's not THAT bad, esp. compared to support of Android phones which is abysmal.
But I remember the wave of disappointment from the ones who shelled out full price for these machines. G5s weren't cheap at all and PC workstations were supported for way longer than that.
