If they're on WhatsApp, then Signal is an intuitive swap that gets some improvement (less snoopy app that isn't favebook), leaving only challenge of network effects. From there, normie norm realizes the bliss of having only 10% of your contacts on Signal, and also gets curious about other options like Matrix... if they've fallen down the privacy/self-hosting/foss rabbit hole.

@BereanBitcoiner @PublicNuisance@fosstodon.org Step in the right direction is going decentralized, so, in case your current provider loses trust, you can save your contacts, chat histories and wave them goodbye. That is the big pro of Matrix. Signal is a protocol too, but app and company first, if tomorrow Signal the company leaking info hits the news, normie norm is kinda lost: either he has to live with it, or learn something completely new again.
