In the US, I hope it leave such deep psychological scars that people say 'shit, I need to get an education', and 'shit, maybe I should learn about this social democracy thing', rather than holding on to their existing idiotic ideologies and religions that have most of them revelling in their ignorance.

I say this with sadness, but hopeful of a silver lining, that the pervasive lack of credulity that allowed these people - the voters - to elect such a horrible specimen might be a learning opportunity. I've had the luck to have had - and taken - the opportunity to live in NZ rather than the US (I already had serious misgivings about the direction of my homeland 30 yrs ago when I happily emigrated). I've got some privilege & I'm also a student of human nature. It's terrifying.
