I have always despised Key - he is a smarmy, arrogant wealthy white guy who believes the opposite of all I believe about making the world a better place for everyone. However this article & his opinion still shocks me - basing your view of drumpf on supposedly being better for "the economy" (which isn't even true) & being blind to the fact that drumpf is a narcissistic misogynist, sexual assaulter, convicted criminal, blatant lier & fraudster just blows my mind.

@piwakawaka I've forced myself to accept that Trump has some sort of backdoor access into the American psyche based on wealth/status/bullshit that I don't really understand.

Which is what makes it even weirder when non-Americans fall for it.

@thomasbeagle @piwakawaka Too say that's an American trait is to ignore all the wealth/status/bullshit people in positions of power around the world. At least we don't have any monarchs, houses of lords, ministers, etc., in our government. If anything, the wealth, status, bullshit people show that we have a real problem filtering the last elements of royalty from our society. The divine right of manna to bestow power.

@lwriemen @piwakawaka For sure, but the point I was making wasn't that the US is unique, rather that Trump is a uniquely US version. It's the same way that Boris Johnson's upper-class coded dufferishness was the key to the English psyche, but wouldn't have worked elsewhere.

To outsiders it looks weird, "How could they fall for that?"
