@cubicroot I think that isn't necessarily true. https://about.gitlab.com/ is a good example. https://codeberg.org/ certainly looks to be another. I haven't tried https://notabug.org/ for collaboration yet, but for personal use it's certainly as easy to use. There are quite a few more.

One things for certain, Microsoft will make GitHub less pleasant to use. Just look at LinkedIn.
