@dynamic No sarcasm. The article states our metabolism pretty much stays the same from our 20s through our 50s, so any weight put on in middle age is due to a change in exercise and dietary habits.

This quote from the article threw me off: "Aging goes hand in hand with so many other physiological changes that it has been difficult to parse what drives the shifts in energy expenditure. But the new research supports the idea that it's more than age-related changes in lifestyle or body composition."

I guess there may also be some question about how middle age is defined. I have the feeling that the definition of "young adult" has been edging upward... which I sometimes suspect might be motivated by a desire tocontinue to include millennials in this category...
