@GuerillaOntologist I've known people who have been happy working manual labor jobs. There's no doubt being poor sucks, but at some point after basic needs are met, poor is relative. The class view really falls apart, if you view them as happiness ladders.

It's the same author, fwiw. The second article was written this year, 11 years after the first.
And from my decade + of working manual labor jobs, I'd say most people do want to "climb the ladder" -- not because they're greedy, but because being poor sucks, big time.
