Weaving (beginner?) question
I haven't come across an explanation yet, of when you'd use a finer reed with one thread per gap as opposed to a coarser reed and two threads per gap.
Project calls for 24 EPI/sett yarn.
My substitute yarn is 24 WPI, and I am aiming for 16 EPI for the twill (wool, if that makes a difference), and I have a reed to match (16 DPI). I hope that calculation is right! I'm happy for a wider project outcome than the pattern.
Until now, I've usually threaded two per gap in a coarser reed.
I could see that being an issue with grabby wool though - is it?
If it isn't, maybe I should get the coarser reed? (8 DPI was out of stock when I got the loom)
Weaving (beginner?) question
@Kymberly I'm a beginner myself, but I would always opt for the finer reed if I had a choice. It would reduce abrasion as each warp thread would not be rubbing across any other warp thread (at least in the reed, possibly in heddles too) as you change sheds.
It would also better enforce the 16 EPI spacing when beating. With 8DPI reed, you would be putting more reliance on the fabric itself to maintain the even spacing between warp threads, I'd think.

Weaving (beginner?) question
@kyle That was my gut feeling - thank you!
The finer one is also good 'cos then I don't have to wait for post, on strike again. :)
