oh fun - looks like nvidia 'just stops supporting video cards' in linux with new drivers, and the old drivers 'just stop working on newer ubuntu installs', so if you upgrade far enough "your video card doesnt work anymore"

@Viss That is the major (user facing) problem with binary blob drivers that can't be in the mainline kernel. They eventually stop being maintained by the vendor and can't be picked up by anyone else. Same reason those random ARM SoC RPi competitors and old Android phones eventually become un-updateable.
