This is a Monroe Model G mechanical calculator that I restored. This model was made between 1918 and 1920, and is the bigger, heavier, much older brother to my Monroe LN-160x.
@kyle I'd like to imagine whenever I'm using the calculator app on my phone, someone at google is using one of these to give me my result
@JRLarsen In a sense they are, in that these mechanical designs (and their limitations in solving linear equations quickly) set the stage for electronic computers.
I find early computers fascinating. Starting in the mid 19th century up to the first digital computers, there was this incredible acceleration in technology compared to prior centuries.
This fascination is the main driver behind my collecting calculators at each phase of this development.
