useless type of screw head. why do they even bother

Show thread

do you want to be unable to use an impact driver because it strips the screws and instead use your drill/driver which will still strip them but less? then we have the screw for you!

context: I am installing shades. I should have bought star drive screws to use instead. doesn't matter how big I make the pilot hole, the drill strips the damn screws.

thank you very much to whoever invented star drive. pilot hole or not, you can just blast screws in with an impact driver with no stripping.

@dthompson as a Canadian, it's still surprising how few other places in the world use Robertson. So many advantages (all those you listed for star drive and more). Such simple things make life so much better.

@keverets @dthompson I only use square head screws for this reason, I find them even less likely to strip than torx/star.

@moparisthebest @keverets those are great, too! Kreg pocket screws use that drive.
