@johns Google with the Maker movement comes to mind. There are likely more hacker spaces because of it, but Maker Faires became noticeably corporate before many of them fizzled out during the pandemic. I-made-a-cool-thing-and-shared-it-with-the-internet folks were in small tables in the back with expensive proprietary manufacturers front and center.
