I'm borrowing "The long way to a small, angry planet" by Becky Chambers from a friend right now, and I'm a quarter of the way through. My stars, is it imaginative! So, that's my #Bookstodon report for the week.

@johns Your reading the same book? That's quite a coincidence.

@pikurasa I had to pause for a few days, still have a quarter or so left. Will you read the next book in the series?

@johns I'm debating whether to read that or read "Marooned in Realtime" by Vernor Vinge. The idea of a technological singularity sounds fascinating. That being said, I found the Wayfarer book easy to chill out with.

@pikurasa I finished, and went right to get A Closed and Common Orbit. Feels right to be reading fiction that's a lot about AI right now..

@johns Great to hear. I am now in the middle of "War on leakers" by Lloyd C. Gardner. It's a book I bought more than a year ago that's been sitting on my shelf way too long. It's a brilliant balance of being both densely comprehensive yet approachable. I highly recommend it. Happy to lend it when I'm finished.

@johns I finished "War on leakers" and am now reading a random political book. How is "A Closed and Common Orbit"?

@pikurasa It is a very deep dive on just a couple of characters, which I have mixed feelings about. But, it is a lot of very timely stuff about AI, and I am very curious how all this background might pay off in the rest of the series -- so, do recommend. I think I'm about 3/4s done.

@johns I'm reading it now. On ~ page 80. I don't mind the deep dive. So far I like it.

@pikurasa Yeah, in the end I decided I enjoyed it quite a bit. Just wasn't what I expected. Now also have the next book, but haven't started yet.
