I'm honestly okay with Meta doing an ActivityPub thing of their own. Will it drown out the rest of the Fediverse? I don't know. I know some people are claiming that it will, but I don't think it will be that bad. First, who spends so much time in the Federated Timeline? The local will remain just your instance and boosts from others, so that's not an issue. And then you have your home which is only people you follow.

There may be technical reasons why this is bad, but I wouldn't know.

I think most people's arguments boil down to this: everything from Meta/Facebook is terrible, therefore this must be bad too.

And I can see that. But we bitch and moan about companies not doing open-source things, and then we bitch and complain when they do. Stop and make up your mind.

@thelinuxcast I view many aspects of on a spectrum and I'm glad that /#Meta is acknowledging the success and potential of . I would hope this would also entail them providing resources to improve and expand it in a way that benefits the broader community. If anyone wants to boycott their instance, they fortunately have a simple way to block it that is already baked in.
