@cybette yeah getting people and companies to write their software for pure linux mobile distros will be hard as well I see why stick with android for the stuff you require from a phone camera!

software plays a part, I'm using a Gcam port, which brings out much more out of the camera than the stock camera app: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
unfortunately it's Android only.
