I'm still holding out hope that eventually consumer backlash will be such that the trend of turning modern cars into smartphones with all the anti-privacy and monetization features will stop. Or at least there will be some modern alternative.

Until then I'm thankful my older cars are working well.

@kyle The article is focused on US. I'm not sure if Sweden or EU puts any restriction or not. But in general, I indeed agree with you.

Furthermore, I am very hestitant to the subscription model of features, even without any surveillance. Maybe the possibility to buy software upgraded features is more likely to be acceptable (by me).

We haven't seen any major smart phone backlash yet, although alternatives to some extent at least exist. I also hope for backlash for smart cars, hope!
