Internet Archive is fantastic!

Read about them and more in this BBC article. And I suggest you to donate some money to the archive.

@hehemrin I'm sure you are fully aware of this damaging ruling, which sadly, unless the US Supreme Court take this case they're on borrowed time as a organization. mastodon.sdf.org/@joeo10/11308

@joeo10 Yes, I know about it. And isn't that the case the article writes about "But other recent news demonstrates that the project is still fragile. That vulnerability was laid bare in a court case..." under the "Single points of failure" heading?

An amazing idea being killed by corporate greed. Anna's Archive is actually more likely to do the job--staying out of the legal territory. And most of the older stuff is probably not being trapped by Anna, but I'm not sure about that.

@demerara @internetarchive Thanks! I've never heard about Anna's archive. I believe it's generally good with multiple archive resources around the globe. When I read about Anna, it appears as for time being its scope is more limited to books and alike, not data such as the Wayback machine, podcast, records and more.

@tinderness I like paper and other physical media, no doubt. But digital is indeed good for sharing, making the data accessible for everyone. And of of course for preserving what is digital from start, like the wayback machine. @internetarchive

@hehemrin

Anyhow, since the donation page is still down. Executing a credit card donation isn't an option (until IA is up again). But this site is up again:

@melroy Internet Archive is likely only down for some days or a few weeks. When they are up and running again, I assume also the ordinary page about donations is up as well.
