Observation: I read *a lot* online.

Every website I read, I suspect, spends substantial money on their design.

I appreciate good design, no question, but for sites that are mostly text, the best you can usually say is their design doesn't hurt the reading.

These days I almost always use Firefox's "reader mode" which eliminates all of that design from the website and just gives me the basic text/links.

Maybe simpler, cheaper design wouldn't be the worst thing?
