I understand that newspapers need support through subscriptions, but I often worry about about how this makes reliable information a luxury for those with the means to afford it.

@Sheril I don't know the situation in detail in USA. But here (Sweden), the public radio and TV (and their web sites) for sure are free and reliable sources of information. Secondly, libraries have in general newspapers. At least my local library, may differ around the country, also offer that I can read several (but not all) newspapers from home for free (with PressReader). That said, it is advantage to afford subscriptions, and I agree the misinformation and disinformation is very accessible.
