I started off my #Linux experience converting a lot of my PCs at home over to #archlinux. Now I am slowly switching what I can over to #Debian based linux. My wife seems to be the only hold out 👀👀👀
@JLW_the_Jobber May I ask why you chose #ArchLinux and also why you chose #Debian? I like hearing from more experienced people. :)
I'm about six months in. So far, I have:
- #Bodhi on a slightly older machine
- Arch in #WSL2 on my main machine, which I never use because it still feels like I'm on #Windows
I'd really like to blow away #Windows but can't until I graduate. So I'm thinking of a dual boot with Arch but open to suggestions.
@lulu_powerful there are more seasoned people out there than me. In started with Arch due to it being “bleeding edge” and it’s very tinkerer friendly. After some time I got tired of the constant updates amd fixing issues caused by some updates. Basically I got to a point where I just wanted things to work. Debian provides that stability for me. For things that I need to be updated more frequently, I just use flatpak.
@lulu_powerful I also dabbled with Fedora but with what’s going on with RH, I am a reticent going all in there. The same with Ubuntu; also I tried it in college like 15 years back and I hared it.
I also enjoyed playing with Alpine Linux, but due to the limited packages, especially compared to Arch and Debian, I would not use it as a main desktop (well, not yet)
@JLW_the_Jobber @lulu_powerful I'm relatively new to Linux, a few years, and slowly moving towards it as daily driver. I've not tried Arch yet, I think to advanced for me. I also get your point of edge and stability. I have Mint, LMDE and Debian installed. Mint Cinnamon as preferred, but as I like Debian more and more as well, I really consider to switch to LMDE as my upcoming daily driver. Mint and LMDE is a bit more user friendly than Debian, but those three are all my faveorites for now.
@lulu_powerful
Thanks and you are most welcome! Try, learn, tack backups, make mistakes, share, disucss, ask and enjoy Linux!
