Anyone who has experience of Volla mobile phone with Volla OS and/or Ubuntu touch OS?
I think I recall the crowdfunding, although I did not join. Seems as Ubuntu touch has come far to become a real OS. Nevertheless, both those OS have the same fundamental problem with important apps (like BankID and Swish) that only are available from Apple and Google store, requiring two phones. But very tempting phone! https://volla.online/en/index.html #mobile #Volla #VollaOS #GoogleFreeAndroid #UbuntuTouch #Linux
@samuel Hopefully you are right! I guess you think of projects like Waydroid and Anbox Cloud. Until I've seen it, I'm still sceptical if it will work on BankID (and Swish). If I don't read about it, I should give it a try when I have time on Linux desktop. We have to live with BankID (and to some extent Freja ID) for at least a few more years. :-)
@hehemrin Yes, alternatives should exist anyway. It is messed up that we force people to be dependent on Android or iOS
@hehemrin I ran Calyx OS on a pair of Google Pixel 3a XLs. I found all the apps I needed by going to the alternate app stores such as Aptoide and APK Pure. I did not have any malware problems just had to dodge a bunch of ads.
@zaivala Thanks, those app stores are new to me, I bookmark them.
"BankID" is an identification/login sw+hw to access bank accounts, authorities, health care and a lot more in Sweden. Available for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. Swish is for money transfer btw private persons or as payment, requires mobile phone number + Android or iOS. Esp BankID is a must on at least one device for digital life. So if I go Linux on desktop, I need it on a phone. Great if there is some way to get it work!
@hehemrin I think the solutions for accesing android app on non-android devices are:
- Emulate android apps on the phone
- Remote desktop to an Android phone or in the cloud
