If the user at one end of the line uses Facebook Messenger (in browser or mobile app), and for that matter in other cases WhatsApp, I do not know about any method to communicate with Fb Messenger nor WhatsApp without using the same tool. I have understood the options is either both ends use them, or both use something else.

@hehemrin @neil @ThatPrivacyGuy Even if interoperability would exist, privacy would still be compromised because the other end would still be tracked. So to get privacy, interoperability is not the solution. Both users using a privacy-respecting messenger is.
