I read with interest today this blog post about the advertising policies at Hacker News:

hakpop.com/blog/thehackernews-

...which calls attention to the terms offered in their media kit.

thehackernews.com/downloads/TH

Specifically:

"Write an article, and we'll publish it on our site as organic content, without labeling it as sponsored or contributed content, giving your message the unparalleled organic exposure it deserves."

The price for that starts at $2,500.

And then there's their policy on homepage news feed placement, which states that you can:

"Boost traffic to your desired landing page and generate potential leads by placing your advertisement (and not tagged as sponsored) in one of the top articles on THN's homepage."

As the blog author notes, this practice could be a violation of the FTC's rules on deceptive advertising.
