@doxial@mastodon.social @Cleopatra@c.im @SocialistStan @QasimRashid Is there anything that you think should be banned, or should nothing be banned in your opinion
@SocialistStan @doxial@mastodon.social @Cleopatra@c.im @QasimRashid It seems to me that bans sometimes cause more problems than they help avoid (e.g. the Prohibition), and sometimes help the issue (like banning certain vehicles from the road).

In an ideal world I would like to see fascist ideology, bigotry, and religious extremism erased, not even privately held in anyone's mind. As well as any practice that abuses children, particularly conversion therapy.
It would be great if WMDs would be uninvented, but that's not really possible, so some always have to exist. I don't think they belong in private hands because they're indiscriminate, a communal weapon would have to be communally held.

There are behaviors, ideologies, and a handful of objects I think should be erased from society, but it's more complicated than a government saying "this is banned now".
The problem is bans create a black market for items not to mention the reaction of people wanting it because they can't have it, and with behaviors they just make that behavior an act of rebellion. Look how quick people on the left are to read banned books for example.
