Had to go back to #Linux on my X200.

#Libreboot can't boot to an encrypted #OpenBSD disk, and I managed to somehow bungle my /etc/login.conf file. I booted into the recovery image (bsd.rd) and used ed 😳 to try to fix the file, but no luck. I only changed two numbers and added a comment, but somehow I corrupted the file. It also gives me scrambled video in text mode, so I'm installing #Devuan until I can learn how to compile and flash #osboot.

@RL_Dane Here's something I have come to realize: practicality is part of "perfection". Though BSD may be technically superior to Linux, if Linux "just works" with much more hardware and software than BSD, then for good or bad it is practically superior.
And when it comes down to it, that makes it better for the vast majority of use cases.

@golemwire

I mean, couldn't we make the same argument for Windows or MacOS though?

I think we have to find our own balance between ideology and practicality.

For now, these adventures are just side quests. 😅

@RL_Dane Totally agree. Though for my use cases Windows is not needed for compatibility with anything (I'm happy about that!) so Linux is both more practical and more pure for me.

Windows is so bad at a technical level that it actually becomes impractical for me though lol

@golemwire

Yes, Windows' UI is jarringly bad.
They should have just left us at Windows 7. It wasn't great, but it was usable.

Funny how 2009 was the golden era for the two major OSes: Windows 7 and Mac S X Snow Leopard.
