EU ambassadors will hold an emergency meeting Sunday after Donald Trump threatened escalating tariffs on European allies until the US is allowed to buy Greenland. Cyprus, which currently holds the EU presidency, called the meeting, set for 5 p.m. Brussels time, according to Reuters. #Greenland
I find it amazing, that he obviously believes, it's the rest of the EU that makes Greenland and Denmark resist his wish of buying Greenland. They don't want to sell in the first place, why can't he accept that? Or is it rather that he thinks, he can bully them into selling, if they don't get backup? It's a puzzle to me.
@lehrerseele @noelreports I suspect the latter. He views Europe as weak and pathetic, and the logical conclusion of this belief is that EU will fold if he applies enough pressure.
I've heard even US generals keep pushing back against attacking Greenland. This might be why he's trying tariffs now.
@lehrerseele @noelreports Right now it appears at least some EU member states intend to defend Greenland in case of invasion. Even more would help Denmark withstand any economic or political pressure. Trump wants to dissuade them, as Denmark is weaker alone. He thinks it will be easy, hopefully it will be hard.
