🇬🇧Unbelievable: Germany would support illegal generalised #ChatControl #MassSurveillance if applied to your unencrypted messages and photos sent via Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Telegram or E-Mail https://video.consilium.europa.eu/event/en/27778 +++ Help us change their mind: https://www.patrick-breyer.de/en/posts/chat-control/#WhatYouCanDo
@agitatra @echo_pbreyer Unfortunately this. We should still oppose legalizing mass surveillance, but we have to realize it's being done already at least by some actors.
@agitatra @echo_pbreyer You'd be surprised. Most people would keep sending plaintext messages and saying they have nothing to hide or that surveillance is for their own good.
@elgregor @echo_pbreyer Probably not, I'm preaching encryption for decades, and often encountered this fatal mixture of lack of knowledge and lazyness that leads to this exhausting handling of personal privacy. Otherwise, I have a little bit of hope that an officiaI concession of mass surveillance, something that is done in secrecy anyway, shifts at least a significant amount of people to encryption so that a critical mass may be reached.
@elgregor @echo_pbreyer This is my point. Why did we introduce encryption in the first place? Because mass surveillance was easy and a sad reality. Nevertheless so many people were/are to lazy to encrypt and therefor claimed: "they had nothing to hide". When mass surveillance of unencrypted messages is officially legal, I'd hope that at least some of the lazy guys understand that encryption is vital, not only for gangster!
