My dad who is 81 recently got into trouble cause the app where he pays his bills decided that his phone is too old.

He has a fully functional phone that’s a couple of years old but he now needs to throw it away because of software.

I think this is bullshit.

If your job is to build software and you decide that you’re not going to support “old devices “ then you need to understand that you’re making life more difficult for people who are already struggling with tech.
Elderly, people with disabilities, people who lack the means to buy the latest.

Lets rethink this.

I starting replying to your last toot, and bailed, cause I don't understand the situation enough to comment. I don't understand why ARM is so different than typical x86, where you can't incrementally update, instead of flashing a whole new ROM.

Change the bits that are a security issue, and leave the rest. Most of it would probably work anyway without doing anything.

@lxskllr @kolombiken You absolutely can incrementally update, it's just Android that isn't made in a way that would support it. It's a property of the software.
