Purism has released the Librem 5's mechanical design, adding to already available schematics and PCB layouts.

I think that may make it the first proper Open Hardware smartphone out there.

@dos The license on those files is GPLv3-or-later, which makes them free hardware designs; https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-hardware-designs.en.html

Unfortunately, some of the designs are in the stl format - while that is good for 3D printing and manufacturing, I don't think that format is great for editing.

Is there a way to make the backframe a bit more robust with this? That is my onw complaint about the #librem5 . I have personally gone through 3 backplates on mine.

@kop316 Maybe? You've got the designs now. But I'm afraid I have no idea, I have never even 3D printed anything so far 😂

Purism, the company that develops one of the most privacy enhancing mobile phones, now also published the hardware schematics of the Librem 5 mechanical design, making it one of the first Open Source Hardware mobile phones, and probably the most complete.
