open source phones are all bad bc they're trying to skip ahead on the tech tree. we at the level of "chonky laptop", or "gen 1 ipod". u can't be making the open hardware iphone yet, u gotta wait a bit longer.
@jacqueline this is so true, we shouldn't even be using 720p touch screens yet. Literally why aren't we using the beepberry with a serial modem (and with the earpiece wired directly to the modem)
the UX would be infinitely more enjoyable than whatever Linux phone you can get right now (for no other reason than that it isn't competing with mainstream platforms that have had billions poured into making them nice to use)
just pick a SoC with good suspend/resume support and make sure the modem can trigger an interrupt for SMS/calls!

@cas @jacqueline I keep hearing that take since at least 2008 and I couldn't agree less. Take an MCU and attach a modem module, it's a DIY project. But what would it be good for, for me at least? I'm working on all this stuff because I want/need a pocket computer with cellular Internet connection (and I'm already quite happy with what I got) - and since it has a cellular modem already, I don't want to have to carry another device just to occasionally answer calls from my mom :P
