Simple sentence, two thoughts:
From European perspective one might think "hot? why should anybody ever order an earl grey which is not hot?".
My guess about an explanation: In the USA one gets beverages rather warm than hot, to avoid that a customer might claim for damages if burned herself.
Looks like if this circumstances made it into #startrek.
Did they ever discus the responsibility for machines actions - like for our about self-driving cars?

Another thought about ordering #EarlGrey in #startrek:
#Picard speaks into the machine. Digital sound travels through hyperspace to a #borg cube and gets translated into commands to make a tea. A cell of the borg collective listens to the original voice, looks at translated commands and decides the collective can be quiet happy with its work. It notes in Picards file that his speech is clear and calm, his ongoing favor for earl grey and updates the statistic about times and locations.
