@debacle
Normally or if it were a PinePhonePro, I'd say upgrade to Trixie.
But given blog.mobian.org/posts/2023/09/ I'd stick with Bookworm.

@FreePietje @debacle 😲 How awful!

If things are that bad, couldn't such a situation be addressed with crowdfunding (#Kickstarter)?
Rather than letting the original #PinePhone be abandoned, I'd much much rather chip in. I truly can't believe that I'd be the only one thinking that way.
@mobian

➡️➡️ What about relying e.g. on the #FOSS mobile wg (Matrix) to propose a proper plan and create a crowdfunding campaign?

From the blog post, it seems that if it must be attempted, *now* is the time 🔥

@turbobob

If you think it's a good idea why not just organize a crowdfunding instead of pushing this in the direction of the Foss Mobile WG?

@FreePietje @debacle @mobian

@agx @debacle @mobian

Because of legitimacy.

It is absolutely needed for a crowdfunding campaign.
There is no doubt there.

Backers
1) need to trust that what the campaign is about will indeed be delivered by the organiser;
2) need to already trust the organising entity itself, as it will receive all the money once the campaign is successful.

They simply won't give anything otherwise.

I moreover believe in the philosophical ideas of free software and self-organisation.

Once the campaign is successful, no one else than the people who have been doing all this amazing work (i.e. people just like you) is better placed to know how to best proceed (e.g. whom to hire).

I am fully convinced that it is a good idea for this very specific task of upstreaming Pinephone patches. Again, the example of @Framasoft
is quite amazing.

@turbobob

All true but that doesn't invalidate my argument. You could:
- contact interested parties that could do the work
- see if they have time to do the work in a self organized fashion
- kick off the campaign, do the promoting that is needed etc

Basically lower the barrier for this to happen.
