In this era of government-enforced cost-of-living crisis, have you considered cooking with a haybox?
@afewbugs explains it FAR better than I can, so go read her rather excellent post now (and share it widely, so others can also benefit)

@afewbugs Oh no - it's us who have to thank you for posting that 🙂

@WilliamNB do give it a try, it's one of those things I just tried as an experiment because I was curious, I genuinely never expected it would be so helpful and convenient! Next step is figuring out how to do it on the move, I've heard of people who start their dinner off in the morning then wrap it in their sleeping bag so it cooks all day, but I need to figure out a 100% reliable waterproof container for that

@afewbugs Now that sounds very interesting!
Imagine cycle touring, and starting to cook your evening meal in the morning, before packing up, then have it quietly simmering on the bike 🙂

@WilliamNB I think it would have to be metal, I don't like the idea of it sitting around stewing in plastic tupperware all day leaching who knows what, and glass is too fragile and heavy. But you have to be 100% sure you wouldn't end up with a soggy sleeping bag. But yes imagine, end of a long day, you sit down to admire the view and pull out a piping hot meal to tuck into

@afewbugs If you're thinking of wrapping it in a sleeping bag, then I'd suggest 1st placing the pot in a drybag, then in the sleeping bag.
A wet sleeping bag is bad enough to sleep in, but a stew-soaked wet sleeping bag would be far worse ;-)

@WilliamNB that's genius!
