I just leaned about the CASE Act, a Copyright law shoehorned into the relief bill, and it doesn’t look as bad as I expected. Rather than reading some blog article about it, here’s the actual text: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/1273
Participation in a Copyright Claims Board proceeding shall be on a voluntary basis in accordance with this chapter and the right of any party to instead pursue a claim, counterclaim, or defense in a district court of the United States or any other court, and to seek a jury trial, shall be preserved.
So, this bill introduces a new small-claims copyright “court” thing, but you can choose to opt out of it as a defendant. I don’t really see a problem here except that they’re spending our tax dollars to solve an unnecessary problem. Copyright should be abolished.
EFF is all like ‘THEY PASSED A BILL WITH COPYRIGHT IN IT, GOTTA RILE UP OUR BASE!!!’
@af Wow thanks for that very constructive reply
