Time for some hard wisdom.
A lot of us are wondering what we can do to fight the rising American authoritarianism.
The short answer is, nothing. And that's okay. It is unreasonable, bordering on self-abuse, to expect that you can change the course of a nation. So stop judging yourself as a failure because Trumpism is ascendant: you were never playing in the same league.
A better question is what can we do to harden our communities against Trumpism? And there we have a ton of options. Talk to your neighbors, yes, even the ones who voted for Trump. Donate to food pantries. Teach people the four magic spells of "I don't consent to any searches or seizures," "I don't consent to questioning," "I want a lawyer," and "am I free to go?"
Love your families and, despite all the stress, choose to be happy. Choose hope.
Hope is a revolutionary act.
