There is no Blue Tick kind of verification in Mastodon. But mastodon provides another way to get an account verified by linking your profile with another link outside of mastodon which people already know it's yours. Other than that there is no real verification due to it's decentralized nature for now. There is no central authority to verify or reject some identity. So beware. Demand more proof.

Keybase method of verification is there but that is not a user friendly mechanism.

Until then don't get too excited and retoot. For People on pleroma there isn't even that option.

I hear this question a lot: There are no blue tick verifications on Mastodon. You can verify ownership of a homepage, it shows up as a green tick next to the link on your profile. To do so check instructions on the edit profile page. It’s automatic.

Welcome to fediverse you all. Damn we have been waiting for you people so so long. Events after events we people from Free Software Movement of India were giving lecture and demo about decentralized web, peer to peer, etc and all it took was one move by Twitter. Thanks Twitter.

Fediverse is a open garden. Find your place. Go explore. Also beware there are dark places too where anti social elements like fascists and pro hindutuva breeds. I don't want to mention the name of that instance and give an unwanted attention to them. But beware and you can mute their posts if you don't want to hear them.

There are no paid advertisements. People inviting other people to join the network that is built democratically from the bottom up and has the idea of federation built in.

Without federation, we couldn't really challenge the hegemony of Facebook or Twitter, or Google or Youtube.

It becomes very clear that the idea of #Federation is the key not only for digital platforms but social movements as well.
