A challenge proposed by @jjardon for #GUADEC2024 in Denver: we try to go the whole week using only GNOME for our phones. No iPhone, no Android, just GNOME OS or postmarketOS or whatever with GNOME on top.

Navigate with Maps, wake up with Clocks, share our adventures with Snapshot and Tuba, communicate with Fractal, etc.

Think that sounds impossible today? We have one year to get things into shape before then! 😅

has the longstanding systemd issue been resolved and released? otherwise only those with pmos will be doing any waking up ...

@cassidy @scottt @jjardon I think this is pretty close, AFAIK systemd has the necessary plumbing and @jsparber has been working on the app side of this.

@tbernard @cassidy @scottt @jjardon @jsparber little known fact: you can write *relative* timestamps to the RTC, thus eliminating the issue of the RTC going out of sync on devices where it's readonly (e.g sdm845).

to whoever is working on this: use absolute timestamps for wakeup on accurate read/write RTCs and relative ones for RO.

@cas @tbernard @cassidy @scottt @jjardon it's gonna be implemented using systemd user .timers. I expect systemd to handle different RTC correctly.
