@EUIPO The Phrygian cap could be successfully repurposed as a symbol against the corruption of the IOC, where a revolution is clearly overdue.
So this might be a pretty good mascot, all in all.
@mcneely 28 checking in. A friend (same age) asked me today if I was using BeReal, to which I answered "no, I'm trying to get into Mastodont". Her response was "okay boomer".
I think it's an old platform indeed.
Not sure it's a bad thing though. Mastodon seems to have the same age distribution any other social network has when it's getting ready to die, but unlike other networks Mastodon is designed for this.
@Brandi_Buchman Nice try, but I'm sure where he comes from a "dictionary" just means an evil communist propaganda leaflet.
@pmroman @EU_Commission This is a great point - negative digital rights should also be ensured. Essential services such as banking should be guaranteed even for non-digital users - and online services should not depend on a smartphone or a product of any particular brand.
@GTK @antolius In case anybody is interested in picking up this - there seems to be a GTK4 Mastodon client out there already!
...well, at least almost. A GTK4 alpha of the app Tootle was pushed to github in July last year. No updates since then though - but the stable 1.0 release still works like a charm. Absolutely a project deserving of more attention.
@kathygriffin I know this is awfully optimistic after all these years, but I still have some hope that a Republican House in the current climate will be a disaster for the GOP.
Part of the GOP is realizing that team crazy did not win them any new fans this election. Team crazy on the other hand (Greene et al) will never stop shouting conspiracy theories. If republicans seeking reelection want to distance themselves from the crazies, the house will likely end up divided in three.
@textfiles Reminds me of Peter Seller's interpretation of Hard Days Night, just much more over the top and somehow not in the name of humour. https://youtu.be/zLEMncv140s
That said, I kind of dig it.
I went on the Bird Site and begged Smithsonian to come on over here. And I could not love their response to me MOAR. :) #Paleontology American #mastodon
@alissaazar @kathygriffin Give it a shot! I can count on a hand how many TV shows I've genuinely enjoyed, this is one of them.
@debe @Gargron I haven't been here for too many months, but in my experience, I was just here to follow niche open source software stuff, and I never managed to get into twitter. Suddenly the place just explodes with life, but with the way Mastodon works, the communities I used to follow are not really affected at all except that there's a little more activity - what has changed is just that there's suddenly a lot more going on elsewhere if one cares to look for it.
It's an enrichment for sure!
@MRC @Gargron There are quite a few bits around, but most of them do cross posting with other sites or work as an RSS feed. I haven't seen any problematic bots yet.
They could very well appear (or be here already), but with the way content is shared and moderated on Mastodon they are much less likely to have any reach. If a server fails to moderate and becomes a haven for trolls and spam, the entire server can be blocked either by the other servers or by individual users. :)
Who Is “Web3” For?
https://strangematters.coop/web3-vs-fediverse-decentralized-internet/
> Like radioactivity, blockchain can be a useful tool in solving certain kinds of problems. Like dental hygiene, the decentralization of global communication platforms is an important problem, but not necessarily the right application for the instrument. Like Doromad Radioactive Toothpaste, web3 has little to do with solving the stated problem, and everything to do with profiting off of a buzzword, resulting in more harm than good in the process.
@fenriswitch @Mastodon es ist für die Administratoren des Server die Upgrades zu laufen - tu musst nichts tun. :)
@Ciaraioch You gotta hand it to Elon - boldly declaring that comedy is now allowed on Twitter before turning the entire platform into a joke is quite the dedication to the cause.
@Nigma That’s not the worst of it.
Twitters own head of legal sending a memo to staff saying that Musk just wants to monetise twitter and has no idea re legal and compliance obligations is probably the beginning of the end for twitter
Alt Text - #Screenshot from #Twitter of a memo from it’s head of legal sent to all remaining twitter staff saying that Musk only cares about monetisation of twitter and has no idea or care re legal and compliance obligations
@RandyDandy@fosstodon.org @EU_Commission That transfers are not cheap and not instant is exactly the issue the Commission is seeking to adress with this proposal, they're not claiming that his is currently the case.
Indeed traditional banking is technologically lagging behind in these issues, but it's just not going to happen that I pay back friends for a dinner out using crypto - and I'm not the most technologically impaired person around.
@worldsendless @thibaultamartin All apps, including the web app. I think it's a known issue, as it's pointed out in for example an article from Tuesday:
> in general, you can only easily see people your friends follow or are followed by if those people happen to use the same server as you. (If you follow someone whose account is hosted on your server, you’ll also be able to see a complete list of the people they follow and are followed by.)

@worldsendless @thibaultamartin That is very interesting - when I try to check out yours, I can see you have 67 but the only one listed is the one from the same instance as the one I am on.
Maybe it has been fixed in a later version of Mastodon, and that my instance (and many others ones it seems) just haven't upgraded yet. In either case that's promising!
