Like other tech megacorps, Apple hates the copyleft exemplified by the GNU General Public License... Its latest MacOS replaces the GPL'd Bash shell with MIT (weak open source license) licensed Zsh instead. Here're some past GPL purges from Apple: meta.ath0.com/2012/02/05/apple

@rune Yup, MSFT and Apple, among others, have long been trying to kill of GPL & other copyleft because they can't exploit it. That's why, for example, MSFT has "encapsulated" Linux in Windows rather than adopted any parts of it directly... allows them to sandbox the GPL's scope (while simultaneously continuing to control the platform, putting a proprietary cage around software that allows user freedoms)... That's why it's so insidious. But most people don't get it.

I know VMWare is almost done purging the remaining GPL code from their totally-not-linux-based OS.

Still can't believe they got away with it.
