Industry, climate change, and my politics
Two things are absolutely true looking at the world as it stands.
1: we don't have enough industry dedicated to ensuring quality of life for all
2: we don't have enough ecology to support our current industry
But the solution is a lot simpler than you think. A lot of industry is just wasted making tat, products are thrown out because they're unwanted. Refocusing industry from consumerism to quality of living is the first step
Industry, climate change, and my politics
You start making products that last. You stop making things that will break so another can be sold, you take control and build a more durable world that lasts for human use.
Then you cut out the industry that's not needed anymore. Once you're making housing and appliances that last decades instead of years you've already made a massive leap towards sustainability.
Industry, climate change, and my politics
If infrastructure lasts- and it's accessible and usable by all- then it has far less environmental impact. Then all you need to do is recycle it at the end of its maintainable lifespan and make it into new infrastructure. If you cannot make a product last, make what it is made out of last instead by constantly recycling it into new items. Either way, it reduces strain on natural resources.
Industry, climate change, and my politics
Industry is not incompatible with ecology- and anyone claiming they are is either a reckless capitalist looking to consume the natural world for profit, or a luddite with a very poor understanding of what actually makes current industry unsustainable.
Every product must last, and be recyclable. We also need to capture toxic and dangerous byproducts: storing them if we can't use them. And at that we should be a lot better off.
Industry, climate change, and my politics
Any industrialist who advocates for endless growth forgets the actual purpose of industry- which is to make human life easier and more automated, more predictable. It is to allow us time for luxury, not to force us to work endlessly.
