Horrifying: The #EuropeanUnion might vote on implementing #ChatControl already tomorrow!

Basically, they want to scan everyone's chat messages for illegal stuff, which is completely disproportionate and a #privacy nightmare.

Chat Control violates fundamental rights (according to the European Data Protection Board), and the German Child Protection Association says it's not suitable to combat child abuse.

Please tell your government to vote against it! I already have.

Great news, everybody! Google has approved the updated XScreenSaver Privacy Policy. I assume that this means that they find it 100% factual and endorse it entirely.

Apparently #ChatControl was just the beginning.

Now parts of the EU-Commission and several EU Governments want to make it possible to track locations of anyone via GPS on-demand, make hiding Messaging metadata illegal, introduce something like ChatControl where End-To-End-Encryption effectively becomes illegal, and a bunch of other insane proposals.

This entire thing has been nicknamed the "EU Going Dark" proposals.

EU Government officials and alike of course would be exempt from these rules, it seems.

If you put needless mandatory text fields in forms, you’re wasting my time. I’ll waste yours right back with my usual placeholder text, “[ object Promise ]”.

I'm sorry Slack, you're doing fucking WHAT with user DMs, messages, files, etc? I'm positive I'm not reading this correctly.

yle.fi/a/74-20079784 Vain mobiilisovellus ja vaatii suomi.fi:n.

Suojellaan suojelualueet – Lakialoite luonnonsuojelualueiden rauhoittamiseksi kaivostoiminnalta - Kansalaisaloitepalvelu

arstechnica.com/cars/2023/11/2 We cannot replace all petrol cars with EVs. And we cannot give the whole global population a western standard of living and an EV (or more) per family. We need smaller cars (EVs are typically very heavy) and sub-cars, like ebikes or maybe podbike frikar

Did you know you could control brightness of the red dot on the i of the "ThinkPad" on the top-side of your thinkpad? I sure didn't:

this turns it off:

```
echo 0 | tee /sys/class/leds/tpacpi\:\:lid_logo_dot/brightness
```

and this turns it on:

```
echo 255 | tee /sys/class/leds/tpacpi\:\:lid_logo_dot/brightness
```

I don't really know what this information is good for, but hey, isn't it awesome to have a 1px display on the outside of your laptop?

@creachadair this is an underappreciated facet of Go IMO, how packages were carefully designed to not require mass retraversal on rebuild.
