Can we please, please – PLEASE! not make the nonsensical US date format month/day/year the default in applications? 🤦‍♂️

PRE 👏 TTY 👏 PLEASE

And to all users of that format: it makes no sense, it's counter-intuitive, it makes collaboration frustrating, it introduces inconsistencies and errors... Just stop. Please. Use international standards.
(And don't get me started on your other units of weights, volumes and distances. Bloody hell.)

Boost if I'm right.

Got some GNU info manual you want to read but you don't like the info reader? Just pipe it to less:

info grub | less

That spits out the whole manual into the less pager so you can move around like manpages.

Try our app, it's exactly like our website down to the pixel except for how it accesses your contacts, location, microphone, pictures and camera and it's not always nagging you to try our app.

👊🇪🇺The Privacy Shield ruling makes decentralised communications all the more relevant; for governments and all organisations with EU operations. Check out analysis by our DPO @denisersalmeida@twitter.com and how @matrixdotorg@twitter.com and Element fit the picture! 🇪🇺 👊

Sharing web pages via screenshots, just as TBL intended.

Did you know that #GDPR allows sites not to announce the use of "essential" cookies? Meaning those your site uses for itself, to keep the user logged in for example.

So when Internet commerce started to slap those stupid "we use cookies" banners on every site they used the more generic word "cookies" to avoid saying outright that their sites use *ad trackers*.

Long story short, if you don't sell your user data, you don't have to present stupid disclaimers.

Can we resist the trend of every programming language gradually turning into the same meta-programming language as they all add from the global kitchen sink of language features please

Really excited to share the details of the academic Matrix research that Florian Jacob and team have been up to at KIT DSN - come learn all about how Matrix decomposes over at: matrix.org/blog/2020/06/16/mat 👀🤓👩🏾‍💻

Brilliant project that tidies up public domain ebooks.

Gutenberg and Internet Archive are wonderful resources, but the texts are poorly formatted for actual use, especially on ereaders.

This is a volunteer driven initiative to bring these texts up to date with modern standards and make them look as good as possible on the page.

"Imagine if every WP site came with its own Matrix community? Imagine an excellent Matrix client available as a WordPress plugin for embedding realtime chat into your site?"

Love this partnership!

Calling your friends and reading them a string of emoji names has to be the silliest form of cryptographic verification I've ever done. Gotta say, I kind of like it.

Well done @matrix !

1) I'd say something's seriously wrong with your society if you're relying on inheritance to get you out of that situation. Not everyone would be so lucky.

2) A decade after publishing, say, should be plenty of time for you to establish your authorship over a creative work and get a decent income. Though ideally you'd get paid before hand so there's less need for those capitalists to lend you money.

3) O.K., I'll lay off that. Had to get it off my chest again.

The UI/UX department of the future will have only two employees, a hipster and a dog. The hipster will be there to feed the dog. The dog will be there to bite the hipster if they change the UI/UX.

Life is too short to format source code manually.

Grafana Loki seems quite nice, now that I figured out how to deploy it without having to learn k8s. I'll let graylog and other elasticsearch-based logging systems wait for a while longer.
