A series of popular extensions and utilities for the Chef configuration management system were pulled offline by the developer when the dev came to learn that Chef was selling professional services to ICE.

Chef in response used prior installs of the tools to produce a fork with the original dev's name removed from the credits.

While Chef has the right to fork the code under the Apache license, they did not have the right to strip prior credits from it in the way they did-- they've since undone that change, but the fork remains up, and is now credited to the original dev despite his desire that his code not be associated with stuff used by ICE.

This is why "Just do whatever" licenses carry a degree of risk. This guy pulled his git repo down with a clear statement that he didn't want to support ICE and Chef just.... put a mirror up, and there's nothing he can do.

Also fuck Chef; it's the worst of the CMS systems out there anyway.
