I had the pleasure to contribute to Lukas Maar's #USENIX2024 paper "SLUBStick".
SLUBStick elevates limited heap vulnerabilities within the #Linux kernel to arbitrary memory read-and-write primitives, leveraging a timing side channel.

I’d like to see more use out of #IPFS since it’s such a powerful platform for distributed content and database operations.

Relatedly, I would like to see more native embrace of cryptographic features like Web of trust and signing of content in these days of AI generation and questions over the trustworthiness of sources.

It might be interesting if the browsing process involved checking signing keys of content to see who has certified the content as genuine.

Here's an interesting (production) initiative encompassing several aspects of publishing and #DeSoc, including technologies involving #Jekyll and ready to deploy #CMS systems, or existing continuous delivery methods with at least one popular web based #Git provider.

Social integration with multiple Fediverse powered protocols is a large part of this active project's focus - i.e., intercommunication in the clearnet web, #IPFS, and other ambitious delivery and target systems is rather unique in a world where projects generally choose one medium or network to accommodate the publishing requirements of authors and participants in social networking.

Of particular note is that nowhere on this web page will you see any mention of mastocrap - no cute little elephant logos or icons either! It's correctly using the non-exclusionary #Fediverse logo and verbiage, with aspirations not even exclusive to the #ActivityPub protocol.

Personally, I find this to be one of the most refreshing and far sighted approaches to publishing social media in live environments populated with real people from most of the more populated corners of the Internet.

It's not a single thing, or even some lofty 'all in one' or 'one size fits all' project - it's more like a pragmatic attitude for the delivery and interaction supporting communications across #heterogenous environments that is a moving target, shifting and being shaped by other successful singular disciplines.

I call things like this, ... Elegant.

i have the feeling that IPFS is slowly dying down, and i think this would be quite sad since it is a super useful technology. [pls see Context further down]

The NFT storage bullshit that was done to gain a bit of publicity for IPFS was really not a good long term strategy.
Also kind of sucks that so many ppl think that IPFS is something something blockchain... although it isn't... i guess it is because FileCoin uses IPFS...

If FileCoin would be usable in the first place this would be not such a big problem IMHO but for now it seams more like a speculation thingy then anything usefully that goes beyond "super complex and slow solution for backups".

At least everything is quite good documented and MIT/Apache-2.0 and other FOSS licenses.

Also Protocol Labs, the org behind IPFS and FileCoin and a lot of cool projects that are super useful for Networking, have discontinued their research grand project, one project especially is something i consider extremely important: Basically a way to get data that is distributed over IPFS anonymously - this would have high impacts for the Freedom of Knowledge. -> here is the research-grant proposal:

IPFS is basically BitTorrent but without a central tracker and deduplicates data by default, also the data created the address which means that multiple ppl could upload the same file independently and it would have the same address.
