#NixOS 23.11 is now effectively end of life.

This means we'll stop fixing security issues, and there will be no more updates to its channels.

Upgrade to NixOS 24.05 asap.

So recently I discovered "foremost"; a command line data recovery utility for #Linux that is pretty badass. It gives you an "audit" file to list everything it found, sorts files into directories based on their file extension and doesn't even have to work with physical disks. You can use dd to make a 1:1 copy of a disk and that image will also contain the fragments of deleted files so you can use foremost on anything from physical disks to a dd image and recover data with it. Pretty badass, 🙂

Thus spake the master programmer:

A well-written program is its own heaven; a poorly-written program is its own hell.

If a programmer gets an interview because of a recommendation, are they being passed by reference? 🤔

Linux Mint 22 Beta is Now Available to Download

And we’re off — the Linux Mint 22 beta release is now available to download. The beta of Linux Mint 22 ‘Wilma’ lands ahead of an expected stable release, tentatively scheduled for late July or early August, depending on how many bugs, issues, and quirks are identified during the beta testing period. Linux Mint 22 is a big update. It’s the first version to be based on top of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, and inherits all of the foundational goodies that release provides. This includes the Linux 6.8 kernel, updated graphics drivers, and tooling bumps. But Linux Mint adds plenty of :sys_more_orange:

#phosh 0.40 will correctly detect the #steamdeck's panel orientation and start up in landscape mode now! 🎉

Here's a photo of it running on #postmarketOS!

There are still a few rough edges with running pmOS, phosh, and the other UIs we support, on the Steam Deck... but it's still really nice to see one rough edge smoothed out.

pmOS on the Steam Deck, just like the blueberries in the photo, is not quite ready for consumption... 🤞 😄

Thank you @agx for your help and patience!

OBS uses the rav1e encoder for AV1 encoding. rav1e is an open-source encoder written in the Rust programming language developed by the Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) in cooperation with the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia), the consortium behind AV1. It is designed to be fast and efficient, making it suitable for real-time encoding tasks like those required by OBS for streaming and recording purposes.
