I decided to do something about this now. here's a WIP PR: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/33512 – it allows baking multiple alternative kernel command lines into a UKI, and the idea is that the boot menu then offers all of them to the user, synthesizing multiple boot menu entries from a single UKI.

It's a reasonable simple approach.

AV1 is an open source & royalty-free video codec developed by the ​Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia), a non-profit industry consortium. Depending on the use case, AV1 can achieve about 30% higher compression efficiency than VP9, and about 50% higher efficiency than H.264.

FFmpeg currently supports three AV1 encoders.
