back in January, 100000 years ago, I got a chance to talk with @darius about running friend.camp; why hometown, his fork of mastodon, is currently needed to create safer spaces; human-scaled social media; and trust networks and technology, for an interview in @logic.

Instead of uploading all our information to silos like Facebook or Twitter, we should be able to host our own basic (meta)data like avatar, status updates or social connections in a standardized format.

You would then be able to grant services like Facebook or Twitter access to that data via a token, and you could control which service gets access to what kind of data.

A bit of federated media history. The "fediverse" was coined to describe the OStatus network (anything compatible with GNU social), as distinct from "the federation" (anything compatible with Diaspora). Once the ActivityPub spec was finalized, and everyone announced plans to implement it (except Diaspora), "fediverse" started to be used to describe any app implementing OStatus, Diaspora, ActivityPub, or Zot. That's the definition we currently use for @fediverseparty party

Is anyone aware of plans for a way to run a single #ActivityPub server that can serve both #PixelFed and #Mastodon frontends? It seems that PixelFed and Mastodon both could be like a plugin to a standard AP server.
