Mojang, the studio behind MineCraft, is exiting Reddit and abandoning is 7 million user strong subreddit after the way the company has handled the API clampdown and ensuing protests.

It’s truly incredible to me that their CEO saw what Elon did to Twitter and said, hold my beer.

Did you know this? Apparently if you bought a copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 in the US, depending on when you bought it the "bros" in the logo is either aligned left on the label or right.

*If the logo on your cart is aligned right, you can't get a world record under current strategies.*

And until *last year*, nobody realized this was a problem. It was believed the versions were functionally identical.

@Eohippa @pluralistic I guess I would just say that Stoller is telling a particular narrative, and sometimes I feel like he omits things or twists them a bit to fit that narrative. I’m not saying to stop reading him, but just that it’s worth to read others as well :)

When you listen to The Verge's podcast and they're legitimately saying Mastodon is a "no girls allowed" club? And we don't want Facebook here because Instagram will bring women here?!

What the fuck is wrong with these American tech pundits? Mastodon is the gayest, transest, most feminine social network I've ever seen. There are so many more outspoken, smart, odd, and downright weird women here than I've ever seen on any other social network. It's fucking great.

@mike the literal exact opposite of Endless OS which can run with no internet connection at all and still be useful! @EndlessOS

During one of the last concerts of the Purple Rain tour, Prince welcomed Madonna (on tambourine) and Bruce Springsteen (on guitar) onstage in LA for a nearly-20-minute-long version of Baby I'm A Star: soundcloud.com/user-389440360/ At 7:03, listen for Prince asking, "Bruce, you wanna play something?"

Excited to share that a note I wrote with @endahargaden is forthcoming in Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector quarterly.

We find that in a highly artificial lab environment, shares of "income" donated to charity follow a nonlinear "U-shape," mirroring an empirical oddity from the observational literature. This means that relative income may have nonlinear causal effects on giving.

"Never laugh at someone for being interested in something you find weird or boring. That just means you don't know enough about it yet."

Something my (now sadly deceased) mum said to me when I was a teen.

Always stuck with me.

Truer now, in the era of social media, than ever.

Arlington County ran a proportional preferential voting system for the Democratic Party primary for two Board seats. One candidate from each voting block was elected. Likely that the traditional method would have given one block both primary seats. There was no mention of the proportionality part prior to the vote. Lots of talk about the preferential part. Apparently this was one of the first ever use of proportional preferential voting in the US. vote.arlingtonva.gov/Ranked-Ch #voting #Arlington #RCV

I absolutely adore the whimsical #art of 3D sidewalk chalk artist David Zinn. zinnart.com

Zinn creates delightful “works of ephemeral pareidolic anamorphosis” inspired by weeds, sewer covers, traffic cones & nearly everything he encounters around his Ann Arbor community.
