Instagram blocked the #joinPixelfed hashtag not long ago, and Twitter too.

Don't forget that 😉

Excellent review of upgrading a 12th Gen Framework Laptop to the full set of new 13th Gen modules by HughJeffreys

"With their first device, they've really outdone other brands that have been in the industry for decades. It's amazing what can be achieved when you put customers first."

@evan Google depends on the open internet because of search, and so curiously has aligned interest with fediverse and NOT having all content migrate to closed platforms like discord and fb and ig. I think it would make sense and if that helps add value to ActivityPub networks I’m not opposed personally

Charles Babbage proposes a difference engine in a paper to the Royal Astronomical Society #OTD in 1822.

The name, the difference engine, is derived from the method of divided differences, a way to interpolate or tabulate functions by using a small set of polynomial co-efficients. This difference engine can thus compute many useful tables of numbers. via @Wikipedia

"A man cannot be wise enough to be a great artist without being wise enough to wish to be a philosopher."

Gilbert Keith Chesterton died #OTD in 1936. Chesterton routinely referred to himself as an orthodox Christian, and came to identify this position more and more with Catholicism, eventually converting to Roman Catholicism from high church Anglicanism. via @Wikipedia

Special shout-out today to the NYT who have apparently never covered a criminal trial before

Okay, Mastodon friends, I rarely ask for amplification about my day job, but I personally pushed for my employer to make a big investment in enabling the fediverse, and I'd love for everyone to show that the support is appreciated. On June 28, you can join us for a (FREE!) hands-on conversation about how the Fastly team worked to support @Mastodon while the service was under a *massive* DDOS attack. Everyone who cares about scaling the fediverse should join: learn.fastly.com/security-miti @devs

Throughout the last several years, the Adriatic sea -- specifically the Istrian coastal region of Croatia -- has inspired my photographer's eye.

I collected my favorite shots and cropped them to 16:9. And now they're ready to be wallpaper on your PC.

Please help yourself:

@m_clem I think we all know this but it is still nice to see it empirically shown. What I would really love to see is how this has changed over time. This paper uses data from only a few years in early 2000s but it would be fascinating to see a study like this over a longer time period.

Twitter learned, and Reddit is fast learning, that people are not addicted to the platform, they’re addicted to the community they found there. Ruin the community, and people will leave the platform. It really is that simple.
