A little patting myself on the back here -

Daniel Francis and Chris Sprigman just released their open-access online textbook on antitrust law, and in the back it has an excerpt of an article I wrote about economic theories of competition during the interwar years!

The book is freely available online here: antitrustcasebook.org/

@paulgp Wow this looks fascinating, especially characterizing the text in posts across... institutions 😮

"Anonymity and Identity Online"

We geolocate the majority of EJMR posters and show that posting on EJMR is wide-spread at US universities and also frequent in other organizations employing economists.

Good news: Princeton University Press has a 50% discount on its online catalog. Bad news: apparently, my price elasticity of demand for books is well above 1.

This is your semi-regular reminder that there are graphical interfaces to git and you should use them, because they make stuff like cherry-picking, rebasing, and resolving conflicts way easier.

I used SourceTree for years on Mac and later switched to GitKraken for Linux support. They’re both good, and both a hell of a lot better than git’s command line interface.

Don’t be macho about this—it’s much better to be effective.

@alfredohno I worry this isn't quite the solution. Won't smaller instances have even fewer resources to do moderation effectively?
What sort of content are you seeing from mastodon social that they are failing to moderate? Why doesn't curating your follow list help to mostly moderate the content you see?

A Möbius strip walks into a bar, sobbing.

Bartender: “What’s wrong buddy?”

Strip: “Where do I even begin?”

Last year we announced we would be joining Mastodon to explore an alternative to today's social media.

We’re excited to announce we’re expanding Mozilla.social to a private beta, with hopes to open to the public soon.

This is just the beginning. Read more about the launch of our instance, including how to join the public waitlist. blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/mo

With the news that Musk has apparently selected a woman to take over for him as Twitter’s CEO, I am reminded of the “glass cliff” phenomenon:

When/if Twitter ultimately goes under, remember that Musk created the conditions for it to do so.

@lightweight @becha I feel like it’s such an obvious and smart decision. I personally like Jitsi as a zoom replacement but whatever the application it is very clear to me that open source digital infrastructure is this massively under-funded public good
